Two random nuisances

  1. Whenever I see names like Picaboo or Picasa, it immediately makes me think of kids eating shit instead of the unit of measurement it is intended to reference. Picaboo is especially bad since pica is a different color than boo in their graphics.

  2. Livejournal does not spell check the subject lines of entries. This post was originally titled A random nusence, but I realized "nusence" didn't look right, and sure enough a quick google search confirmed I had it spelled wrong. Thanks for almost making me look like a total jackass, lj.

I went to summer day camp at the YMCA in GC for like 2 weeks one summer and the only friend I made, I made by eating paper. It was something like this:

Me: *chewing on construction paper*
Her: What are you doing?
Me: Chewing on construction paper.
Her: Why?
Me: It tastes good. Want some?
Her: Ok.

When i was interning in the hospital last year i had a family who reported their 20 month old had little to no appetite and was eating dirt on the floor. After checking in with their doctor I had set up a referral to the peds. behavior clinic to work with eating issues then i sat down with the family to get to know them a little. Turned out the mother was force feeding him. The child was overweight and it was inhibiting his mobility. His dirt eating was the way he gained power over what went in his mouth. Damn i love toddlers.

I did not know about either of these picas. The only pica I know is pica de gallo - no, wait. That's pico de gallo. (yum!)

My brother Tom used to eat margarine directly out of the tub with a spoon when he was little. However, I don't think he had pica; I think he was just a weird kid.

One time while babysitting, I made the little children some fish sticks. I left the kitchen briefly and returned to discover the kids eating mayonnaise by the spoonful. I vomited in my mouth a little.

Anna and Jacque have been giving me a hard time for having mayo on my french fries. They think it's very gross. That's why I have you, bitty! You know it's tasty.
