Current mood: happy I'm getting a refund

It's one for you, nineteen for me
I started finished my taxes tonight. Every single form was filled out by hand... until the feds make e-filing free, they can keep paying someone else to type in my information.

you don't qualify to e-file? http://www.irs.gov/efile/article/0,,id=118986,00.html

for me, i have to pay for state filing if i use one of the popular programs that also does federal. i can do free e-filing through my state, and another program to do federal for free, but instead i opted for turbotax to walk this first timer through it for a total of $9.95 (state cost)

I am afraid of giving my personal information to one of those companies. I know it is (probably) an illogical fear, but overcoming it would take more effort than just doing my taxes by hand.

Yeah, Fed eFiling has always been free for me. I didn't know there was a way for it not to be free. Er... Also, if you go to the Docking Building in Topeka, retired IRS folk will do your taxes for free! Hooray! I'm sure there are similar services through the library in Larry.

You have to give your info to a company who will file the federal one for free. I fear such companies. I would have less fear of a retired IRS person, but still enough fear to keep me from using their free services.

I know! I was so annoyed to find that my so-called "free" filing software from the IRS was $75!! After spending almost 2 hrs entering information, I just paid it. I wasn't about to find another program and start all over. Urgh.

I have e-filed my fed taxes for free every year since I started e-filing (5 years, maybe?). KS lets you e-file state for free, too. Still, I'm all about letting them pay someone to type in your info! Yay for refunds!

THe time I tried to e-file for free, it gave me a list of companies that would do it for me and I got all freaked out and like HOW DO I KNOW THEY WON'T STEAL MY IDENTITY?!?!? and my fear of corporate america combined with my fear of the government and I decided I couldn't tackle both of those fears at once and contact with the government was a necessary part of the equation since I had to file my taxes so I just did my taxes by hand and that was that. Now I am like an old person who is afraid of change and will probably do my taxes by hand for the rest of my life.

Well, that's alright. There's nothing wrong with doing your taxes by hand! Just wanted to mention that to make sure you knew just in case. :)
